The Race Master Holster utilizes an efficient and easy system to allow shooters to switch their holster from one gun type to another by means of changing the Insert Block Assembly. This switch is fast and easy and can be done in under 2 minutes, and without loosing any of the holster's adjustments or settings.
The Magnetic Insert Block Assembly includes:
1. The Locking Block (gun specific)
2. The Sliding Lock, assembled (gun specific)
3. The safety lever, assembled.
This assembly does not include the stainless steel tension adjustment screw, spring and plate, which you must transfer over from your Race Master holster and use with the 2nd Insert Block Assembly.
Format
Over the years, we occasionally heard from customers the following complaint: “sometimes, when I try to re-holster my gun, the slide lock is down, and I have to lift it manually”. This complaint was almost exclusively from Tanfoglio or Sig shooters.
As it turns out, the issue never was that the slide lock had fallen down, but rather that the edge of the trigger guard on these guns, being steel and often a little sharper than plastic guns, was catching on the upper tooth of the slide lock – rather than sliding past it to engage on the lower tooth, as it should. As a result, the slide lock would move down under the trigger guard, rather than engaging on it, forcing the user to first lift the slide lock all the way up before re-holstering.
This issue is caused because the slide lock is only lifted on the draw as far as it needs to go to release the gun. That means that upper tooth is displaced sideways only as far as was needed – and no more. Not all the way to the upper end of the track.
So – after some trial and error, research and development, we are pleased to offer you the new Magnetic Upgrade option for your Racer or Race-Master holsters.
This system incorporates a pair of powerful magnets, which are positioned to reject each other – creating what feels like a spring-loaded system – and two very distinct positions for the slide lock – all the way down – and ALL the way up.
Now, as the gun is released on the draw – the magnets continue to push the slide lock upwards – higher than the gun itself pulled it – thereby ensuring that when you come to re-holster, there is no chance of catching that upper tooth as you holster.
An additional benefit of this magnetic system is a distinctive “click” which is heard as you holster. Something that is common with other holsters, and requested by some for the Race Master as well.
Note that this Magnetic system replaces the option of the Tension adjustment Knob. It does away with the aluminum wedge and spring as well. Each Magnetic insert block ships with a thin plastic laser cut plate (with 3M adhesive), which can be applied on the outside of the holster body, to cover the hole previously used for the tension knob.
Gun Compatibility - Important!
While the Race Master Holster is gun-specific, it is designed to enable you to switch from one gun to another without having to buy a completely new holster. All you have to do is change the relatively inexpensive locking-block assembly, available separately. Now you can use the same holster for different guns.
Although these holsters are gun specific, manufacturer changes to trigger guard and grip design may require customization of the holster by the customer to ensure proper fitment.
Some aftermarket grips may not work at all if they deviate too far from the factory configuration. DAA provides videos on their web site to explain the modification process. It is not difficult but you must be prepared to tackle this process if the holster does not precisely fit your firearm. Please do not buy this holster if you are not prepared to tackle this procedure. Modified holsters are non-returnable.
Para & 1911 Style Fitment
We have found that there are several types of Para frames out on the market. It seems the older frames had a trigger guard which was pretty much identical to the standard 1911 as made by Colt and Springfield and many others. However, more recent Para's have a thinner trigger guard. The shape and contour is still the same, but it is actually narrower. Where a 1911 is about 3mm thick, the newer Paras are about 2.5mm. This half mm is enough to make the gun rock a lot in our holster, as there is no muzzle support. Not an ideal situation all around. We deal with lots of 1911 issues - there are so many models out there and trigger guards vary greatly.
STI Fitment
STI makes several types of 1911 guns, and they themselves have 3 or 4 types of trigger guards! Compounding the problem is the fact that due to the round profile of the 1911/para trigger guard, even with a very good fit in the holster, the gun can still rotate a little around the radios of the trigger guard itself. That is a problem as well. If you have grips that have been modified it may not work for you. Especially if the front of the trigger guard has been modified. I suggest you watch the videos and be willing to do the fitting or even replace your modified STI grip to get it to work. It kind of depends on what the expectations of the customer are, and what he is comparing to. Our holster will hold the 2011 frame much better.
CZ Fitment
CZ SP01 Shadow holsters are a direct fitment. The holster can be modified to fit the CZ Tactical Sport (TS) by modifying the insert block. Once you have modified the insert block, the Shadow will still work as well but the fitment will be looser due to the fact that the TS has a wider trigger guard.
If you are ordering a holster or an insert block for a CZ TS Czechmate or CZ TS Orange, please look at the attached picture showing the trigger guard area. CZ seem to be using two styles of frames for these pistols so you need to select the correct one.
